Learn More About Marietta, Georgia
Marietta, Georgia is a city located 15 miles northwest of Atlanta in Cobb County. At 23 square miles and a population of more than 56,500, Marietta is one of Georgia’s more popular mid-sized cities to visit and reside in. The city has a humid sub-tropical climate with an average high of 52 degrees in January and 89 degrees in July. Marietta is a quintessential Southern mid-sized city, rich in culture and history and long on friendliness and community spirit.

Marietta is an ideal location for anyone looking to get away from the larger metropolitan centers (such as nearby Atlanta) and enjoy a slower and more quiet quality of life.  The heart of Marietta is the downtown Glover Park square which plays host to several cultural events and the extremely popular weekly farmer’s market. The square is often decorated in colorful seasonal Victorian setting. The stage hosts regular lunchtime and evening concert performances while the Gazebo is a local favorite for wedding photos. The three-tiered fountain is a popular draw for tourists and locals alike.

Part of the appeal of Marietta is its deep connection to local history. Amongst the city’s 18 public parks is the 2,923-acre Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park that preserves a Civil War battleground of the Atlanta Campaign. The Marietta Museum of History offers residents access to thousands of artifacts providing a look into the daily lives of the people of Marietta going back hundreds of years back.

Culturally, Marietta boasts a number of venues and options for local entertainment. The Marietta Players perform semi-professional theater all year-round.  For local film buffs, the historic Strand Theatre has been renovated back to its original design and features classic films and other events.

The schools in the area fall under either the Marietta City Schools system or the Cobb County system. The Marietta City Schools (MCS) is Georgia's first Charter School Systems and first International Baccalaureate (IB) World School District. It serves 8,900 students at eight elementary choice schools, one sixth-grade school and one middle school (7/8) and one high school.

In 2016, The Washington Post ranked Marietta High School (MHS) among the nation’s top public high schools on its list of “America’s Most Challenging High Schools.”

Summary
Marietta Georgia is a picturesque and scenic textbook example of small to mid-sized community living. With a strong sense of community, stable housing market, and superior school system, Marietta is beginning to stand out as a top tier residential destination. In 2006, The National Civic League judged Marietta one of the 10 best communities in the nation as an All-America City. Five years later, CNNMoney.com named Marietta one of the top 25 places in the United States to retire.
