Canton is located in the Cherokee County, 40 miles away from Downtown Atlanta, Georgia. With a population of 22,680 people, the site where the city was founded was the center of where the Cherokee Nation once lived .
The city was founded after the federal troops forcibly removed the Cherokees that had stayed behind and not already moved west in 1833. Even though the factory that manufactured the famous “Canton Denim” - The Canton Cotton Mills - has been closed since 1981, the town has experienced a surge of growth in population, which has tripled in the last 20 years.
Located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Canton is divided by the Etowah River, which flows from east to west through the center of the city. With dry, hot summers and cold, snowy winters, the city features several points of interest, especially for those who like history.
