Canton is located in the Cherokee County, 40 miles away from Downtown Atlanta, Georgia. With a population of 22,680 people, the site where the city was founded was the center of where the Cherokee Nation once lived .
The city was founded after the federal troops forcibly removed the Cherokees that had stayed behind and not already moved west in 1833. There are many projects underway for revitalization of the town and visitors and residents alike can enjoy places like the Historic Canton Theater, the Cherokee County History Museum and the Funk Heritage Center, where they can see a large collection of Indian artifacts representing the Native American Indian culture.
