About Douglasville:

Douglasville is a city located in the Atlanta Metro Area. With a population of a little over 30,000 people, it is the county seat of Douglas County, standing only 20 miles west of Downtown Atlanta. Douglasville has an area of approximately 22 square miles, delimited by Lithia Springs, Hiram and Villa Rica.

The city was founded in 1874, when the railroad reached that part of the land. It was formerly known as Skint Chestnut, due to a big tree used by the Native American Indians to landmark the area. The tree had its bark stripped in order to stand out when someone was looking for it - thus the name. The town only changed to Douglasville a few months after its foundation, named after Senator Stephen A. Douglas.

The proximity to Atlanta makes Douglasville an excellent option for those who need to commute to work and enjoy the hustle and bustle of a big city, but still come home to the peace and quiet. Despite being a small town, Douglasville has plenty to offer. With a historic District in the town center, there are plenty of museums, parks and several attractions to keep the tourists and residents entertained. Places like Douglas County Cultural Arts Center, the 7 Venue, Arbor Place Mall, Hunter Park and the Champ's Clock Shop and Museum - which is home to the world’s largest and finest selection of clocks - are some of the points of interest in town.

Located in North-central Georgia at the southern tip of the Appalachian Mountains, Douglasville has hot summers and freezing winters. Despite being so close to Atlanta, the city is not an expensive place to live, with a cost of living 12% lower than the average when compared to other cities in the United States. The average annual income per family in Douglasville is approximately $53,000.

When it comes to education, the city is served by the Douglas County school system, which has 21 elementary schools, like Arbor Station Elementary School and Chapel Hill Elementary School;eight middle schools, including Chestnut Log Middle School and five high schools, like Douglas County High School and Chapel Hill High School. Douglasville is also home to several private religious schools, such as Heirway Christian Academy, Primrose School at Brookmont, The Kings Way Christian School and St. Rose Academy. The city also has a few higher education institutions, including Mercer University and Strayer University.
