Learn More About Dallas, Georgia

About Dallas, Georgia:

Dallas is a small city in Paulding County Georgia, in the state’s Northeastern section. With a population of approximately 23,000, Dallas embodies all that’s great about small city living while sitting just 35 miles north of downtown Atlanta. Dallas is a rapidly growing city as its population has ballooned from 12,629 back in 2010.

Dallas has a humid subtropical climate making it a very comfortable city for its residents. It has an average temperature in the winter of 52° and an average temperature of 81° in the warmer months.

One of the most appealing aspects of living in Dallas, Georgia is its abundant access to beautiful parks, nature, and outdoor recreation facilities. One of the signature recreation amenities is the famous Silver Comet Trail. The trail is a former railway line that has been paved and turned into a non-motorized trail for walkers, hikers, cyclists, roller-bladers, horses, and even dog walkers. The trail begins 13 miles northwest of Atlanta and runs for 61.5 miles all the way to the Alabama border. The trail runs right through the heart of Dallas and is an extremely popular venue for local residents to keep fit and enjoy the great outdoors.

Dallas has a number of beautiful public parks with modern amenities for all of its residents to enjoy. One of the more popular is Sarah Babb Park which features four lighted tennis courts, two ball fields, volleyball courts, a swimming pool, an outdoor pavilion, outdoor grills, a playground, and cycling trails. A popular destination for wedding photography is the Dallas Gazebo Confederate Trailhead. The seasonal plants, fountain, and gazebo provide an amazing backdrop for the most special occasions.

Dallas is rich in local history and the community has gone a long way to stay connected to its recent and not-so-recent past. The centerpiece of this historic preservation is the Pickett’s Mill Battlefield which is widely recognized as one of the best preserved Civil War battlefields in the nation. History buffs can walk the same trail as the Confederate troops and explore the terrain on which this particular battle was fought.

Residents of Dallas take great pride in their arts and cultural amenities and there’s no more significant facility in the city than the restored Dallas Theatre which now serves as a center for fine arts.   First opened in 1927, the theatre was a popular spot for moviegoers in the early part of the 20th century until it burned down in 1948. It was reopened soon after but was closed again in 1965. In 1999, a local group set out to restore the theatre as a fine arts community center. Today it serves as the host of several concerts, stage plays, musicals, and other live performances.

Schools in Dallas are administered through the Paulding County School District which oversees 33 schools with just under 20,000 students. There are 19 elementary schools, nine middle schools, and five high schools under the district’s care. Amongst the higher rated schools in Dallas are Floyd L. Shelton Elementary School at Crossroad, Lena Mae Moses Middle School, Roland W. Russom Elementary School, and Sammy Mcclure Sr. Middle School.

If you’re someone who prefers small community living, access to the outdoors, and appreciates a close knit community vibe, Dallas is worth checking out. The city has been consistently ranked as one of the safest cities in Georgia. This combined with its quality school system make it an appealing possibility for just about anyone.
