Learn More About Snellville, Georgia

Snellville, Geogria:

Snellville is a midsize city in Gwinnett County Georgia, located 18 miles east of Atlanta’s downtown core. With a population of just under 20,000, Snellville has been able to keep much of its small community charm despite its large urban proximity. In fact, it’s official city slogan “Snellville, where everybody is proud to be somebody,” tells you a lot about its community spirit.

Snellville has a humid subtropical climate which produces temperate weather in the winter and hot humid summer days. The average temperature in the cooler months is in the low 50s, while in the summer it routinely gets up in the mid 90s

The pulse of the Snellville community is the Thomas W Briscoe Park located just south of the city center. This hundred-acre community gathering place is used for individual recreation as well as official town events. This park features two softball fields, three playgrounds, four multipurpose fields, four outdoor open air pavilions, an outdoor pool, a one-mile paved walking trail, a six-acre lake, tennis courts and basketball courts.

Of course, the park really comes alive for two days every May for the annual Snellville Days Festival. First started in 1974, this festival has become a community favourite and features a full parade through the town. Briscoe Park serves as the central hub for Snellville Days as it’s the location for hundreds of vendors, food booths, live entertainment, and a children’s activity area. In 2012, Snellville Days was voted best of Gwinnett.

Briscoe Park is again the site of another manifestation of Snellville’s amazing community spirit – the Community Garden. The community garden allows residents to grow food for their own consumption however, many in the town donate the food to local charities. The garden is currently undergoing expansion and will soon feature a greenhouse, pavilions, tool barns and an amphitheater.

Snellville has a thriving arts and culture scene which features amazing live performances all year-round. The New London Theatre Group performs plays and musicals all throughout the calendar year. Local residents are consistently entertained with everything ranging from Shakespearean plays, to Neil Simon productions, to Broadway musical revivals.

There’s also a strong culture of dance in the local community. The Gwinnett Ballet Theatre, now located in nearby Lawrenceville, had its roots in Snellville. Young and aspiring dancers perform in the annual Rhapsody Musical which is put on by a local dance school.

Schools in Snellville are administered by the Gwinnett County School District. The district is the largest in the state of Georgia, serving more than 178,000 students. Some of the highest rated schools in Snellville include Brookwood High School, Brookwood Elementary School, Britt Elementary School, and Snellville Middle School.

Snellville is a growing city that is rich in community spirit. amazing public parks and top rate recreational facilities, combined with the low crime rate and above average schools make this a very attractive city for just about anyone.
