Stone Mountain is a small city in DeKalb County, Georgia in the Atlanta metropolitan area. Stone Mountain is further evidence that good things really do come in small packages. It has a population of just over 6,000 and a geographical area of 1.7 mi.². And yet, there is plenty to offer in terms of small community spirit and access to some of the most breathtaking nature and scenery you’ll find anywhere.

Stone Mountain Park draws thousands of tourists and local residents who come for the family fun that can be found here. Some of the more popular attractions are the Sky Hike which allows you to trek through the treetops in the country’s largest adventure course, or the all new Geyser Towers for those looking for some water fun. For some low-key enjoyment, you can take the cable car to the top of Stone Mountain for a breathtaking view of the surrounding area or enjoy a train ride around the mountain and take in all of the area’s natural beauty.
Stone Mountain has a number of top rated public parks and recreation facilities for its residents to enjoy. Outdoor life is a big part of the Stone Mountain experience and there’s lots to do in this small community. Leila Mason Park has pavilions, picnic tables, a children’s playground, basketball courts, and a baseball field.
Stone Mountain prides itself on its small city community spirit and there’s perhaps nothing more emblematic of the spirit than the Stone Mountain Community Garden located at the VFW park. Operated through a partnership with the city, county, and a local master gardeners group, the Stone Mountain Community Garden consists of 50 individual garden plots, a composting site, herb garden, a wild flower patch, and a food pantry gardens. Residents can garden in their own individual garden plot while food from the pantry garden plot is donated to the local food pantry. In a year, the garden can generate more than 1000 pounds of produce for the local food pantry.
Schools in Stone Mountain are administered through the DeKalb County School District. With more than 137 schools and 102,000 students, the DeKalb County School District is the third largest in the state of Georgia.
Stone Mountain’s public schools include Stone Mountain Elementary School, Stone Mountain Middle School, and Stone Mountain High School.
