Stone Mountain prides itself on its small city community spirit and there’s perhaps nothing more emblematic of the spirit than the Stone Mountain Community Garden located at the VFW park. Operated through a partnership with the city, county, and a local master gardeners group, the Stone Mountain Community Garden consists of 50 individual garden plots, a composting site, herb garden, a wild flower patch, and a food pantry gardens. Residents can garden in their own individual garden plot while food from the pantry garden plot is donated to the local food pantry. In a year, the garden can generate more than 1000 pounds of produce for the local food pantry.
Schools in Stone Mountain are administered through the DeKalb County School District. With more than 137 schools and 102,000 students, the DeKalb County School District is the third largest in the state of Georgia.
