Marietta, Georgia is a city located 15 miles northwest of Atlanta in Cobb County. Culturally, Marietta boasts a number of venues and options for local entertainment. The Marietta Players perform semi-professional theater all year-round.  For local film buffs, the historic Strand Theatre has been renovated back to its original design and features classic films and other events.
 
The schools in the area fall under either the Marietta City Schools system or the Cobb County system. The Marietta City Schools (MCS) is Georgia's first Charter School Systems and first International Baccalaureate (IB) World School District. It serves 8,900 students at eight elementary choice schools, one sixth-grade school and one middle school (7/8) and one high school. 
 
In 2016, The Washington Post ranked Marietta High School (MHS) among the nation’s top public high schools on its list of “America’s Most Challenging High Schools.”
