Covering a total area of about 21 square miles made up almost entirely of land, Mableton is a census-designated place located in Cobb County in the state of Georgia. It is the biggest unincorporated community in the Atlanta metropolitan area, following the upgrade of Brookhaven to the status of a city in December 2012.

 

The CDP was named for landowner Robert Mable, who bought 300 acres of land in the area in September 1843. The Southern Railway erected a train station in the community in 1881, helping to drive its growth. Mableton received a post office a year after the station was built, replacing the one in Bryantville about two miles southeast. It was incorporated as a city on August 19, 1912. However, the new city was de-incorporated just four years later.

 

Mableton was home to 37,115 people as of 2010 census. There were more than 15,000 housing units, of which more than 13,409 were occupied. Majority of the housing units (about 75 percent) were owner-occupied. It had a significantly young population, with slightly more than half of residents not older than 34 years. CNN News anchor T.J. Holmes, television producer and commentator Michael King, R&B singer Ne-Yo, and fellow R&B singer Quinnes Parker are some of Mableton’s notable people. This is also the home of Roy Barnes, who was Georgia’s governor between 1999 and 2002. A popular community in Mableton is Vinings Estates, a calm, family-friendly and well-maintained community with an average resident age of 44 years.

 

Public education in Mableton is handled by the Cobb County Schools system. If for some reasons you’d love for your children to learn Japanese, the Georgia Japanese Language School offers opportunity for that. Whitefield Academy, which is situated in the area, boasts one of the highest SAT averages in the nation.

 

More and more people have continued to move to Mableton, with its popularity helped by its closeness to Interstate 285 and major locations such as downtown Atlanta, Vinings and Buckhead. Add that to what is considered one of the lowest local tax rates around. The community tops all that with affordable housing and abundance of space for those seeking a great location in the proximity of Atlanta. The charming property is now home to the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre, which is used for hosting a variety of public events. The Silver Comet Trail offers a great place worth checking out when looking to enjoy the outdoors.

 

With an excellent school district and affordable housing, Mableton makes for a great place to live in Georgia. One of its major draws for residents is its proximity to downtown Atlanta and some other major urban areas. The people here also enjoy lower tax rate than obtainable in some neighboring counties.
