Learn More About Power Springs, Georgia:
Powder Springs is a small city in Cobb County, Georgia in the greater Atlanta Metropolitan area. Located just 22 miles northeast of Atlanta, the city covers an area of 7.2 square miles and has a population of approximately 15,000. Originally named Springville, the town changed its name to Powder Springs in 1859 on account of the minerals that were found in the local spring water. The 26 minerals in the water turned the surrounding sand black like gunpowder.
Powder Springs has a humid subtropical climate making it a very comfortable city for its residents. It has an average temperature in the winter of 52° and an average temperature of 81° in the warmer months.
Outdoor recreation is a big part of community life in Powder Springs and this is supported through its impressive public parks and trail systems. Powder Springs is on the famous Silver Comet Trail which makes it a popular destination for local cyclists, joggers and rollerbladers. The trail begins 13 miles northwest of Atlanta and runs for 61.5 miles all the way to the Alabama border. Complimenting the Silver Comet Trail is the Lucille Trail which allows residents to travel without a vehicle to numerous destinations, including Powder Springs and Wildhorse Creek Parks, historic downtown, the library, and employment and commercial centers. There is also the Wildhorse Trail which is another excellent multi-use public trail within the city.
The signature public park in the city is Powder Springs Park, located just west of downtown Powder Springs. This park is 25 acres of ball fields, playgrounds, picnic areas and pavilions, an outdoor swimming pool, and a passive recreation area with paved trails.
For some good ole fun in the sun, nothing beats a day at the waterpark and in Powder Springs, that means the newly opened Seven Springs' Waterpark. The waterpark offers water slides, a splash pad, and lazy river.
The historic touchstone in Powder Springs is the Historic Downtown area. This special section of the city is home to specialty shops, events and festivals and the multi-use trails that connect to the popular Silver Comet. This is where you will also find the amazing Seven Springs Museum, located in the newly renovated historic Bodiford House. This museum features a unique collection of artifacts and photographs chronicling the history of the area including the "Powder Springs Has Some Deep Roots in It," which outlines the story of the historical neighborhood called the flats.
