Statesboro is a small city in Bulloch County, Gerogia, in the state’s southeastern quadrant. Located approximately 55 miles northwest of Savannah, Statesboro covers just under 14 square miles with a population approaching 31,000. Adding to the Renaissance aspect of Statesboro’s cultural identity is the truly impressive Averitt Center for the Arts (ACA). The ACA serves as the center point of downtown Statesboro with its arts campus operating out of five renovated buildings in the downtown business district. The Emma Kelly Theater, named after the world renowned local singer, is home to some of the best live stage, music, and ballet performances in the region. The center also contains art studios, conference rooms and an exhibition area.

 

There have been several professional athletes to come out of Statesboro and that’s not surprising given its world class recreation and athletic faculties. The centerpiece of these facilities is easily Mill Creek Regional Park. The park consists of155 acres of land which features 15 lighted baseball fields, seven soccer/football fields, a walking trail, two playgrounds, multiple picnic pavilions, and several public restrooms. For those who enjoy recreation on the water, Mill Creek Reginal Park is right in the shores of the region’s major lake. Whether it’s for a leisurely bike, ride and evening jog, to walk the dog or to play baseball or football, Mill Creek Regional Park is the place to be active in Statesboro.

 

Schools in Statesboro are administered through the Bulloch County School District. Bulloch Public Schools is 38th largest school district in Georgia, serving nearly 10,500 students in a consolidated system with 15 campuses and two alternative learning centers.
